本片根据蒲龄原著之聊斋志异中画皮一段改编而成。落第书生王顺生娶妻多年，一无所出，一日自城中赶路回家时，偶遇一明艳少妇尤枫，她自称身世可怜，被逼嫁入某大户人当妾待，正室所虐，故冒死出走，王仗义相助，愿意让尤暂居于其书，当晚王欲与尤行鱼水之欢，天忽亮，尤推说身体不适，拒绝了王的要求。翌日，王往城中购胭脂水粉，欲赠尤以讨其欢心，遇玉清道人，后者指王邪气缠身，王置之不理。王返家，向妻子陈氏表明心意娶尤为妾，陈氏趁尤宽衣沐浴时，竟自窗外窥得尤摘下脸皮，点画胭脂之骇人情景，吓得晕死过去，王连狂奔玉清道观，求道人除魔，玉清把一尘拂予王，嘱王把它挂在寝室门外，不料尤枫仍能潜入室内，向王申诉前生之辛酸遭遇。。When on-call psychiatric registrar Dr James Ford finds himself caught between an anxious new mother’s postnatal check-up and the sectioning of a psychotic patient, no one could predict the tragic outcome.
