What started as a week-long adventure with friends, quickly turns into a terr...。故事发生在1956年的美国，工人查理（艾德·哈里斯 Ed Harris 饰）爱上了歌女帕奇（杰西卡·兰格 Jessica Lange 饰），可是此时的帕奇已经嫁为人妻，她拒绝了查理的追求。不久，帕奇的婚姻陷入了困境，和丈夫格兰德（James Staley 饰）离婚后，帕奇顺理成章地和查理在一起了。 1958年，查理应召入伍，身怀六甲的帕奇决定放弃事业，追随丈夫的脚步。然而，一下子失去了生活的重心，帕奇陷入了抑郁之中，她和查理之间的关系也降到了冰点。之后，孩子降生，帕奇重新回到了歌坛，并且大获成功。可是，和事业上的顺风顺水不同，帕奇和查理之间的爱情却再也不能回到从前，越来越自卑的查理甚至动手打了帕奇。。
