Fårö Document 1979 is the ten-year followup to the first documentary Bergman made about his adopted home, Fårö, where he filmed many of his best works and lived until the end of his life。明朝万历年间，北镇抚司丁翦在追查火器失窃案中，妻子苏青被贼匪绑架，丁翦被迫行刺三皇子，妻子枉死，而自己也成了叛党，为了报仇，为了解谜，与好友李进忠，一步步解开真相，却不料自己只是一个可怜的棋子......。
