讲述了中国历史上最后一个皇妃，溥仪最后一任妻子李玉琴充满传奇色彩的上半生，李玉琴与皇帝情感的悲欢离合，一个中国普通女人挑战皇权追求幸福的故事。该剧以爱新觉罗·溥仪从1942年到1957年的人生经历为主要线索，侧重讲述了溥仪与其最后一位皇妃李玉琴的悲欢离合、情感纠葛。 本剧演绎了“灰姑娘”李玉琴与末代皇帝溥仪结婚、离婚、又与平民结婚的富有戏剧性的一生。剧本以平民视点，以一个女人奇特的命运，透视了伪满洲国、国民党统治，共产党政权不同制度变革下的人性轨迹。出身贫家的李玉琴，十五岁被选入宫，嫁给了溥仪，一夜间成了满洲国的皇妃，不久战争改变了她的命运，日本投降和伪满洲国垮台，溥仪丢下李玉琴仓慌逃跑，没有带她离开。 战争结束，溥仪作为苏军的俘虏羁押在俄罗斯，李玉琴四处流浪，落魄回家，她在困苦的十年间，一直等待溥仪。之后李玉琴找到了图书馆管理员的工作，并结束了...。Disarmingly realistic in its depiction of the realities of frontier life, Heartland is a strong antidote to the cliches of traditional Westerns. This semi-documentary slice of life is based on the diaries of Elmore Randall Stewart about her days on the Wyoming frontier in the early 20th century. It's a strongly feminist statement about a woman raising her small daughter alone and scrapping for a living by working for a shy Scottish rancher. Director Richard Pearce brings an endearing touch to a film that is helped greatly by the dazzling cinematography of Fred Murphy. Conchata Ferrell and Rip Torn star in this small film that substitutes veracity for a high-powered plot. Pearce worked as a cinematographer on Woodstock and other documentaries before making his directorial debut. Winner of the 1980 Berlin Golden Bear at the Berlin Film Festival。
